Isla Blair is an Anglo-Scottish actress.

Biography[]

Isla Blair was born in Bangalore, India, on 29 September 1944.[2] Her father, Ian Baxter Blair-Hill, was a tea planter of British descent. Blair's interest in performing arts first became apparent when, at the age of two, she gave an impromptu singing performance on the boat ride from India to England.[3] She went on to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to prepare for a career in acting. She is married to fellow actor Julian Glover,[2] known for his role as Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, with whom she has a son, actor Jamie Glover.[4] Along with Prunella Scales, Blair and Glover were involved with the expansion of the Salisbury Playhouse.[5] She is a Vice President of TACT, the Actors' Children's Trust.[6]

She made her screen debut in Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors (1965) and went on to appear in A Flea In Her Ear (1968), Taste The Blood Of Dracula (1969) and The Battle Of Britain (1969). On television, she has guested in The Avengers, The Saint, Jason King, Blakes 7, Doctor Who, Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspense, Boon and Medics, but she is perhaps better known for her regular roles: as Lady Caroline in When The Boat Comes In, Emma Antrobus in The Crezz, Flor Beniform in The History Man, Laura in The Bounder, Hillary Drummond in The Office and the ill-fated Ruth in Mother Love. She also appeared with Kenneth More in the three-part 1978 parallel-Earth drama An Englishman's Castle and has been seen in the films Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989), Valmont (1989) and The House Of Angelo (1997).[7]
